  “Then I’d best get Milly away from him. It was very nice to have met you and your sister.”

  “And if you’re ever in Bibury, don’t hesitate to call, although why you’d be there, I have no idea. Unless Robbie stumbles over a body in our garden. Then we would certainly be expecting you.”

  I wasn’t certain whether that was meant as a joke or not, and as the Misses Bates could very well stumble over a body in their garden, or from the way Robbie was looking at the hitching post, behind the shrubbery by the Fellcroft, I hurried to get Milly into the carriage and on our way to London before anything else interesting could happen in Bath.
